Are your PDF proofs (for print jobs) going to your customer in CMYK or RGB colors.

for extra large files that need to be smaller I save them as "screen optimized" which automatically converts to RGB.

I usually just optimise for screen, they're just for layout/copy checking, if their fussy about the colours then they should pay for hardproofs.
I do cmyk ones if I have images on FH docs where the bg colour is the same, otherwise the pdf shows the bg as different colours :/

I agree with above posts, but if the client has a color laser (which many do these days), you get a closer match with CMYK (they actually lay down the toner in 4 quick passes simulating offset.
It all depends on the project and /or client.

i forewarn to print it out, and not to proof onscreen.

i find the colors are more accurate on screen as rgb than leaving it cmyk.
