mimio - i don't yet suffer from sleep apnea but the doc said it would certainly lead to that eventually. apnea is scary stuff.

mm. i used to snore pretty badly, but my girl says that i dont snore anymore.
i looked it up online and found out that losing weight can greatly decrease your snoring.
i lost about 50lbs (20kilos or something) so i guess... that is just something to think about.
seems overweight people have 'more' of a problem with it. nifty, i reckon.so how bout them pics eh? hurry up and get em posted. :)

Bio - good deal.
Awhile back I lost a few pounds and she said the volume was down but definitely not cured. I've snored since I was a healthy teenager.
Surgery is scheduled for Sept 10th... I'll post gross pics then. =)

i've had similar surgery for a deviated septum. the process was painless. the only thing that sux is when you wake up you have 2 oversized tampons stuck up your nose. sleeping is impossible for the first night, cause you cant breath through your nose whatsoever. then the next day....they pull them out. that fucking hurts.
then its all good.

im going in tomorrow for jaw surgery, long time scheduled, but then it was changed to october, and now its re-scheduled for tomorrow, scary but glad to get it over with, its the second of 2 surgeries, the first was widing my upper palate (mouth) so that all my teeth line up... im excited about it being done because im going to be a cyborg, replacing some jaw bone with titanium.

f-18 - was that a septoplasty?
I'm having a uvulopalatoplasty. They go into my throat with a laser remove the uvula and shorten a portion of the soft pallete.
The doctor said it will be painful for 7-10 days. Says I'll probably lose 5-10 lbs. Fine with me - I could stand to loose a few and I'll get good pain pills. ;-)

function - KICK ASS!
... and good luck.

gruntt - do you find that people get squeemish hearing about your surgery? i tell people about the surgery, and because im nervous about it i ramble on into details, and most people freak out and stop me well before it gets to the good parts
- gruntt0
function - nobody has gotten too squeemish but I am leaving out some of the more grusome details.
I think what I'm most nervous about it the anethesia.

hehehehe. function. had jaw surgery as a teenager. got 16 screws in my jaw (8 on each side) and a metal X across my chin. looks totally badass in X-rays. =b
and gruntt... a word of advice. take tylenol or aspirin until you are better... THEN take your pain pills. hahah. yes, i am an awful influence

Bio - i'm already with ya on the pain pill thing. It has been my experienc that the wonderful warm narcotic effect of pain pills is dramatically reduced when there is actual pain to kill. I'm gonna push for a refil too. ;)

gruntt - the anesthesia isnt too bad, the first time i had it was last year at my first surgery and i was nervous too, i found the worst part was that i had to piss so much from the intervenous, but the anethesia nums your insides (i guess, not sure the exact reason) so it was really hard to go, i found i was getting up every 2 hours, on the hour, to piss about 2ml's of fluid when it felt like i was going to explode, brutal.

it's gonna be crazy. i wonder if i'll say any crazy shit as i come out of the daze?
- function820
i guess i was lucky, i couldnt talk when i woke up, so i didnt have to worry too much about saying crazy shit :p i remember the recovery ward nurses asking me if i wanted skittles, but that could have been a wonderful drug induced dream, because i remember them being really hot

Sleep Apnea = sleeping with this...

Tomorrow is the big day. I just had my last cigarette (no smoking 24 hours before surgery).
Wish me luck!

how old are you???
my father had his deviated septum opened at 40 and his has grown back some already.
they say to only do the operation if you are sure you are not still growing.
??

I'm 30 but I do not have a deviated septum. I'm having a "uvula something octaspy" - basically they're removing my uvula and shortening the soft palette to reduce vibration.
Thanks for the tip though. Trust me I've done quite a bit of research.
