They're different in every state.

I think the Numbers and letters are the same font, just the color of them and the background are different. I could be wrong. Never paid that much attention.

Pennsylvania has this one like the one at FontBureau: http://www.fontbureau.com/fonts/… Living in Pittsburgh, Christian Schwartz registered the industrial grit in the forms of capitals and numbers on license plates in Pennsylvania the rhythms of vertical and horizontal alignment without implications of typewriter or lineprinter.

Mimio's site is the best I've seen online - also there was a great article about the plates in STEP magazine. I believe it was last months.
Also - I think every state does have a different typeface and also Kentucky, Iowa and Illinois all have new designs for their plates. I'm not sure if the type changed, but I suspect it did.

I think its called "Felon Fantastic Narrow".
hopefully someone laughs at that...

Conor Mangat's typeface PLATELET ..
The inspiration for Platelet came from the California license plate. Similar to the composing restrictions of the typewriter, the manufacture of license plates also requires the use of monospaced type; not only for mechanical requirements, but also to fulfill the need of fitting a fixed number of characters onto each plate while maximizing their legibility at a distance.
