Hi there- just taken a freelance job doing a webpage for not a huge amount of money. thing is i now find out the page has got to contain a messageboard, news ribbon and poll which can only be updated from one terminal at a labour conference. I'm a graphic designer who works in dreamweaver not a a systems genius - is it easy to build the messageboard etc. from existing templates and then drop them in within framesets? should i take the job?

get it all from bravenet.com its free and crap but will do the job plus you'll have loads of crappy bravenet banners all over...
hey your a designer, not a tech

well you sure make that sound like an ideal solution :/

yeeah thats the thing- i don't think they really want a big ugly message board=- they want a nice tidy stream of text in a 150/500 pixel frame.
basically i think someone's looked at the NT board and gone i want THAT
am i fucked?

yes, unless they have £££

You're probably going to have a battle on your hands, considering you're already worried about your ability to deliver already at this early stage.
Perhaps scape someone else to help you complete the components you can't handle yourself. But as you say, the project isn't for big bux.
Or, tell the cleint..'sorry, can't do it for the money your paying'

yeah but its for a bloody charity. heart strings being pulled and all.
the moneys not that bad - i just need to get the components elsewhere and wack them into a frameset- which i'm happy with, and i can't afford to sub-contract.

sounds like you might dig yourself a big hole with the project......from my experience of these things the best thing to do is just be honest with the client....explain what you have to do extra because most of them wont undertsnad the difference between a bespoke shopping cart system and a brochure site. they dont see what the backend difference is
Good luck
