i've been working in prepress in addition to doing design for this company all summer... especially because i wanted to learn the back end of printing so i wouldn't have as many problems later... prepress shouldn't be hell.
i'm really surprised with the stuff that comes in here - people constantly send stuff in lo res, w/o fonts, RGB, wrong document sizes, stuff unlinked... if the file's done right from the beginning it should be a breeze

we run everything through flightcheck pro... that's pretty nice to have on either end.. it'll reveal any problems with your file. it even configures to custom profiles for different printers/rips, etc

thanks for all the hints.
the thing is, that it is hard to change from a creative position to a prepress job - and this all for the money. i feel somewhat castrated, not that i want to look down on the dtp people.
well, just an accumulation of compassion. i'll stop whining now.

i'm not sure what you're getting at, but my angle is i don't see why its all so complicated...

I can sympathize pascii, I can't imagine going from a creative position to doing pre-press or production work, especially if you are dealing with Ad designers. I shutter to think of what crap you must be dealing with!
