My friend is the stereotypical dumb blonde girl. After she dropped it in the driveway and trapped it beneath a sliding car seat, she just sent it back to Apple for a replacement. Try that maybe?

Go to your local opticien (sp?). He has a smooth polishbrush to clean up watches. It takes out even the deepest scratches.
And the best part, they mostly do it for free.

probably some wax cleaner or scratch removal liquid exists
