Alright here's my dilemma:
My girl just finished law school and took the bar out hiere in San Diego. The plan was to stick around SoCal. Los Angeles was the furthest point to move to that we had considered.
Job market down here for 1st year lawyers is rather tight. Now there are a lot of jobs that seem to be poppin off in Las Vegas and they pay very well. Top that w/ a low cost of living and low average home price.
I survive w/ freelance design and that usually sucks when you move to a new town. On top of that I HATE Las Vegas after about 3 or 4 days. The place is a f*ckin hellhole. I never wanted to live in the desert.
Now the clincher is if she got one of these jobs that she wants to apply to she would make enough money for the both of us in her first year. Much weight off my back on the financial end.
So I guess I want some feedback from people that live in Vegas or have lived in Vegas or just some perspective. Am I gonna slit my wrists after a month or is it livable?

aren't you only allowed to practice within the state that you passed the bar in?
maybe i'm wrong - but i thought you had to be approved in each individual state.

yeah that's true. It would require her to take the Nevada bar which she is planning on doing in February anyway as long as she passes the CA bar.
the CA bar is the hardest in the country and Nevada is considered to be much easier so she is not sweating it as much.

its livable, don't burn yourself out there though, and don't treat it like a vacation
i actually have friends that own property out in vegas, they're based in san diego, so if you're interested in a place out there, may be there's something

hey... i was trying to give you a reason not to move to vegas... but you won't listen!

I know 2 people who lived in Vegas.
My dad lived there for a few months but said everyone stayed in their own apartment with the A/C on blast and never came out. He got bored of it and I helped him move back in 106 degree heat.
The other person is a friend of a good friend who went there and got hooked on heroin.

yo ANY time you can have a girl pay for you then do it. PLUS she's gonna be rich in a few years, you gonna wanna keep lock that shit up right quick before she dumps you for one of the partners.
- MIJA0
hahaha. lilbabyarm
gonna marry her in October.

iDp thanks. sent you that email.

oh man good move dude... does she per chance cook? shit you in heaven if she does.

why is she taking the CA bar now if you are moving?
NV is harder if you look at passing percentage rates...CA is not really known as being the toughest, but that's subjective. i just don't get why you'd take one only to move elsewhere immediately. you have to pay Bar dues etc., and CA doesn't have the best reciprocity.
as far as vegas is concerned, we just got back from there yesterday and i feel bad for anyone who has to move there without really digging it.

sorry i'm a moron...she already took the bar and you're waiting for results, right?
hope she passes...the waiting period sucks.

hehe thanks for feeling sorry for me sputnik!

My first impression of Vegas was when I drove through in '96 on a skate road trip from MI to SF.
The worlds biggest thermometer in Barstow said it was 122 degrees!

thanks for the info I really appreciate it. Good chattin.

hehehe yeah it gets fucking hot here. But seriously I never really feel it except when I go out for a smoke. The AC is blazin all summer long here. Of course if you are visiting here then you are probably walking around the city which is something I never do.

MIJA,
Hit me up anytime. My aunt and mom are both court reporters out here so if your girl has any questions I know that neither of them would mind pointing her in the right direction as well. Nice to talk to you as well.
