those sites are halfway decent, but it looks like you tried too hard to make them trendy.
use the force, uh, luke, and design with your inner self.

you didnt fully realize your idea on your first site. your navigation should be in the style of your little nav menu and the main menu, not some crappy scroll window, ya diggy dig?
the second site is a little better. there is something there though that is holding your design back, cant place my finger on it.

yeah, it feels all a little cluttered, i feel as though your background is flyer-design.. well i started out that way as well and i learned that if you do flyers you are NOT necessarily a good designer.. I had to learn an incredible lot since that period... i can see you growing.. but there's still stuff that reminds me of the flyer-level-design... esp. don't make it to layered, choose consistency in use of type and space, don't use too much photographs half faded on top of each other, it's confusing, don't outline type if there is no need for it!
other then that i can see you are moving in the right direction..
just my 2 cents eh?
no hard feelings!
goodluck with it all.
cheers,

I would loose that gray scroll area on the 1st one and like someone said before, make the subnav in the same style as the main one. the other site, I think you're mixin' too much images... those blurred transitions between color and photos, are to avoyd, in my opinion. :)

which subnav doesn't match the main nav - 6ixfinger or blueolive? i assume blue olive, in the cuisine section?
