We've currently placed an add for a graphic designer (Jr) in some well-known publications... and, what the HELL is up with graduates this year? We've had everything from the crapiest print outs from a guy with an MA to HUGE packages containing god knows what to bribe us into reading the things.... Honestly - some of the things that have landed on our desks must have taken hours to construct and cost a fucking fistful of beer money... Isn't just making it look nice good enough???

Moth can ask which company you work for?

Well, were you impressed by the beautifully crafted and constructed ones or not? If you were, that was the point, wasn't it...to stand out from crappily printed MA applicants.

I blame the government

It used to be 'Everyone's a critic', now its been officially changed to 'Everyone's a designer.'

show some respect.. anyone sacrificing their beer-money to something else then beer (except for hookers) deserves major respect!

I agree wit ya oz, with so many designers out there and being that a good portion of us are a creative lot youre bound to get some creative if not 'out there' CV's.

Our profs used to encourage us to do that kind of gimmicky shit. But I agree that it can be a little over the top.
Usually what I've found is that the more layers of gimmick used around something like this is just trying to hide the lack of experience or maturity. Your prior work and CV should speak for itself.

Not gimmicky but something memorable, a 'grin' on the face of the receiver is all you need.

have a stripper recite your CV in person...that'll leave an impression.

They were ok... but just seemed wasteful almost. Simple, good layout will always stand out.
Even the CV within didn't look as if the same care had been taken... Better than the guy with the MA at least - that was awful.

I like to follow up unsuccessful applications with anthrax.
