Can someone recommend a good beginners guid to Pro Tools LE

Pro Tools themselves put out a pretty good tutorial and book, I've learned it a little and it's much easier, to me, than Cubase, Sonar or Cakewalk

im just getting into digital audio editing and someone said pro tools was available free??? how is that possible?

I doubt that pro tools would be up for free. Most of the time you need some hardware to go along with it, like the O2 rack or the Mbox. I got the Mbox and it was worth it.
With some nice mics you can get some nice deals to record some bands demos.

There is a free version of ProTools that has been out since 2000. It's essentially ProTools LE. PeachPit Press has a VQS book for PT

Pro Tools LE is similar to Acid Xpress, you're not going to be able to do much with it and it might expire for Mac

With PT FREE, you'relimited to 8 tracks at once and 48 midi tracks. Unless you're planning on recording your band on separate tracks, the ProTools Free should be fine. Even still, you can ping pong tracks. It doen't expire for the mac. I've had it on my machine since late 2000...no worries there.
