I've ben offered a full time job with sponsorship (woo hoo) and they asked me how much I would want as a wage...
Basically the job is senior designer (web), in charge of a few people, meeting clients, doing pitches, creating briefs etc etc...
I was thinking 50,000, or am I completely off the mark?

they allready offerd it to you and they ask how much you want....do higher...if not you regret it later when you found out that they would payed you more if you asked for it.

true, but I was wondering what the average is.
- slag_you_off0
+ I havent accepted it yet. I have a funny feeling I'll get more freelancing.
- toe-knee0
anhthing from 80k to 55k. depending on the size of the company. I'd ask for 65k with some r&d budget. 50k is quite low.

also, with sponsorship your stuck with them. Did you ever think of getting sponsored throught an agency? Thats the way i do it, get better tax rebates and you can work for who ever you like, the only criteria is that you must work 9 months of the year, but they are flexable with that, i only worked 8 last year.

Can I ask who sponsors you T?
I don't suppose Aquent will do it?
I'm freelancing through Drake at the moment as big as say Addecco, maybe they would do it...

Its sponsorship agencies that do it, they are generally seperate from Recruiters (thanks god)
I use Ayers Management, they are the stricktest of the lot but they work with the government so there is less chance of them going bust. There are quite a few other ones out there. Pen Dragon seem to be very good also, I hear that free spirit are ok too.
Just ring around, they charge a percent of your slary and with some you must pay heath insurance yourself, some you dont. Its all a matter of what your after. They do all your payroll aswell which saves a big headache if your contracting
congrats on the job by the way.http://www.pendragon.net.au

ok, cool...
I just called them and they are calling me back...
Can I ask you a question?
My Situation:
I'm freelancing on a contract at the moment, and I have the possibility of 2 more freelance contracts.
On the otherhand I have this fulltime job oportunity.
Could they in theory sponsor me, and I work for the fulltime job offer?
What I really want to get around is this 3 month rule...
and as I understand it, my girlfriend can change her visa once I get sponsorship...?
I'll ask them if you don't know...
- blackspade0
def ask for more than 50 slag
- slag_you_off0
I'm getting that feeling

Im In Perth, and i am just a regular graphic designer.
Im on 87k but that is contract.
depends on hours though. i get 40 an hour + super
hope that helps

they are strickt on the 3 month rule but if the guys that are offering you the fulltime gig can get it to you in writing I'm sure they can go ahead with the process.
I forgot to tell you aswell, that if you get sponsored, the Aussie government give you a monthly tax free allowance because you live away from home. As carver would say "Daft. eh?"
- toe-knee0
and ya, your girlfriend will be defacto on your visa, meaning she can legally stay on a just go to the beach everyday and do nothing while you have to work. she can also work too if she likes

hello all thanks for all the replies you have been a fantastic help. God bless NT.
well after all your advice I've turned down the full-time job, seemed like a lot of hassle, and I have taken up a 3 month position at a cool agency instead...
One question, and I promise this is the last...
I have to submit invoices to them, and I'd really appriciate a pointer as to what needs to go on an aussi invoice.
I have
name
address
tax number?then what work Ive done.
maybe there are some templates knocking about on the internet?

Also whats the best broadband ISP in sydney?
- toe-knee0
internode are a good isp in sydney. I went with Optus, they are ok but internode mirror a great few internet radio stations and let you listen for free. but then again it all depends what you are after
go to http://whirlpool.net.au and read up on the different offers
the studio you work for will more than likely have a timesheet for you to fill out and then just send that to the agency and the agency will invoice them. Thats the way it worked when i was contracting
who are they if you dont mind me asking
