I have this problem since i am in germany, i could never really fix, its like a "health problem" that you get use to it, you kinda learn how to live with it!!
At home i have a DSL connection, T-online, rooter from the provider, switcher and 2 pc's and my mac.
The problem is that in my mac the connection is always going down, but just when i am surfing the net. Looks like it looses the DNS and it comes with the "could not be found", then i go to the system preferences i change the configuration from, for example, manually to DHCP, I go back and voilá I get in!!
WTF I tryed everything, from apple they say they dont give assistence on thirty part, etc!
From T-"offline" ii desepere, did u guys ever had something similar? Did u solve it!?
If you know something drop me a tip, pleasseee
thanks

First step... You should check in your Network pane > TCP/IP and confirm whether you have an IP address allocated by the DHCP server (the router), when this problem occurs... Check whether "Renew DHCP lease" works as well.
If you have an IP address but still no DNS resolution, have you entered the 1st and 2nd DNS Servers? (optional but recommended)

Yeah sure I have everything setup, and in the place - I think its probably a hardware issue (from the router or the switcher)

So do you have an IP address displayed at the time this happens?

And if you do have an IP address... Can you get to any website using its IP address instead of domain name?

I have had the same problem when there was someone else sharing my connection through the router, basically, I would be onlone fine with my mac, then he would go online and after say 10 mins my connectioin would drop, although throuth the router control panel you could see that the connection was still live. I would get back on by changing my local IP.. It was something to do with his computer as far as I could see..

sure ribit if I access the website trought the IP adress i dont have problems.
Rasko with me happens no mater if i am alone or all 3 are online!! and it only happens in my mac, the pc's have no such problems
its so fucking anoying, today I already changed my config about 20 times, everytime I check a new adress, plonk "could not be found"
then i go there chang from manually to another or vice versa and voilá!

so I guess that means it is definitely a DNS problem, not an IP allocation problem, right?
Could still be hardware, software or a DNS problem at your ISP (they can be unreliable). You could try other DNS servers to test....

Have you tried allocating reserved IP addresses to each computer in the Router setup...dont know if it would help.... Wondering if other computers are grabbing same address or something...are they all using DHCP? maybe try manual IP allocation?
- ribit0
although IPs didnt seem to be the probem..
- Elfangio0
either I use manual IP or DHCP its still happens (just now happened 2 times in 5 min)
hamm but can i use other DNS server ? other than my provider?
- Elfangio0
I am not 100%, but i think the pc's have manuall config...
- ribit0
You want to check the PC config...that they are eithe ron DHCP or on separate manual IP.
You can use any DNS server on the web that will let you access (I think that is most?)
