silly apple question

on some of the shortcut keys, such as going to a menu, and you see the shortcut for an action, like command+w or something.
anyways, sometimes i see this symbol that looks kind of like the xerox 'x', but with out the lower left leg. what is it? i dont see a key with that symbol on it.
im new to apple, dont be gay and give me shit.

thank you for the response, but that's not the symbol im seeing.
the first symbol if you go to the apple menu and look at force quit...
that symbol is right there.

Its Option/Alt Key, the symbol is not printed on the keyboard but thats it.

its the alt key. usually represented by a cross inside a knocked down house.

god i'm so dumb. lower LEFT not right leg missing!!! i was like wtf is that? yep. like said before. alt / option key.
