Just getting ready to build an app in Flash and started investigating components as opposed to "the long way round".
Anyone else had the experience that components seems like wayyyyy too much hassle? Tutorials on the MM site seem woefully inadequate.
Or, could you point me in the direction of resources that might being me round to MM's way of thinking?

I know what you mean, but if you want like a scroll pane then to just drag and drop the on eout of the compnenets menu is really rather cool once you realise how easy it can be..
I got a great heirachichal menu from somewhere (cant recall where =(, literally all I do is specify XML source, menu font, color, etc, and its working, sweet as..
I actually find that components can make the suthoring environment a little unstable, and cause crashes and freezes from time to time (luckily I do ctrl+s in my sleep), and it can be a bitch goiung through some of the internal comp. AS to tweak it yourself, but hell, they're quick, mostly free and usually work quite well, the only drawback being that some simple comps. can be pretty weighty, and they all export linkage on the 1st frame, so tweaks and magic aside it can be a bitch demoing one to a client on dial-up.
And AOL.
AND who's got a 'mate whos a cheap web designer, and HE says....'
But thats another thread.

I have heard that v2 components are far better than the old ones, and the new update of flash (7.2) has some improvements over the skinning of the components. If your project involves one or two components then it could be cumbersome to follow that route as the final filesize would be large than expected. but using 5-6 components in the same project comes handy as it don't make a huge difference 2 or 6, so if I'd use I use them due

Hmmmm...
Bottom line is, I want to create a fast-loading, widely accessible (ie Flash Player 6), stable app for our client, and after a day's tinkering with Flash 7.2 components I'm not filled with confidence. Al;so get the feeling that having started it in MX 2004, halfway through I would regret it and revert to MX.
Confused and concerned.
