Every site I go to that uses it takes around 10-12 seconds longer to load. Why would anyone want to wait that long so you can have stats?

its only when invig is having problems, if people put the code in the bottom of their docs rather than the head then there is no problem, the page loads regardless.. at least, thats what I did to stop it.

it's been happening like that for almost a year now.

Yeah. That's why I removed it some time ago. It's a shame, because I really liked it.

I have been having that problem recently with my site.. you will find that even if you put the invigorate code at the bottom of the page it will still take just as long to load the page on Mac browsers (particularly Safari)..
I have managed to overcome the problem by putting the tracker in an '0' height frame on the front page (ref: http://www.cheong-see.com/) This means that the page loads regardless of how long it takes to connect to invigorate
unfortunately that means you don't know where your visitors where refered from but you do get the hit rate and world analyser...

Try loading pages that use reinvigorate now. I just fixed (literally minutes ago) a small bug that would hang some browsers (I think Safari) on some macs. I don't have a mac so if you could verify this I'd greatly appreciate that.
It's also true that I'm working on a new stats system. The new version will take requests and cache them (though still appearing realtime to users). ..So if reinvigorate was bogged down by heavy load it wouldn't affect loading times whatsoever (processing the stats will be done on an entierly different server)

So everything is better tomorrow?

i never had a problem with it loading slow on any platform or browser.
i put it at the bottom of my splash page.

ok sean.. works fine on safari. no more "errors" & hang time

Funny thing, for me it actually loads way faster on Safari than on my PC running Firefox - it sort of gets stuck and just keeps on loading and loading in FF. Although it's just randomly, haven't seen it happen in a while now.
