I just wanted to voice my opinion.
I think InDesign is amazing. I just created a document, got pretty far into it and didn;t save...
CRASH!!!
Opened InDesign to start over and to my surprise, there was my document at the exact point where the crash happened.
Geh!!

that has happened to me many times. InDesign is dope. Quark can go eat a fat dick.

Quark is an overpriced Claris Works...I hope that Quark Xpress dies a miserable and painful death...

Quark 6.0 pulled that bullshit on me last night where it won't save your document and it says "file already open" so then you have to open a new document and cut and paste everything into it. BULLSHIT. Not too many advertising agencies/design firms where I live are using InDesign yet, but I think most of the freelancers are switching over. Is InDesign easy to learn? I know Photoshop pretty well.
- jg_20
yep. Indesign is ace.

motormel:
InDesign is much easier to learn than Quark, since most of the keyboard shorts are the same as PS/Illy.

Quark is over. InDesign is coming.
- XC010
if you are used to quark shortcuts, you can set InDesign to use quark shortcuts too.
recently set myself up as a freelancer (bought all new SW for OSX etc.), quark is too expensive, InDesign does the job so well, i'm not missing quark at all.

Yeah I've just gotten into InDesign as well...I love it.
Fuck Quark.

Which version do you use? I worked with InDesign 1.2 a year ago. Sometimes it crashed while saving and completely fucked up the file! :(
- nicholasngkw0
indesign rules!!!! yeah!
- lara0
i agree, indesign is great.. not so great with type.. still, i truely hope quark dies out any second.
quark feels like a product from the 80s.

"that has happened to me many times. InDesign is dope"
Yes, crashing software is pretty amazing.

Wait a minute

PeterH...all software crashes my friend. The point I was making is that everytime is does crash my file is automaticaly recovered. Yes...pretty amazing.
- Peter0
Tyrone, my friend, autosave has been along for a pretty long while. It is not a new thing.
The point I was making is that too me, a software that doesn't crash at all would be pretty amazing.
- BonSeff0
i just wanted to say paste-up is the shit
ok,
late!oh yeah, almost forgot..
amberlith rules it too
- Tyrone0
OK school is in....the feature in question is not autosave. The app actually creates a temp file that stores all of the edits to the document up to the very last thing you did before the app crashes. So regardless if the file is saved at a specified interval or not all info, is in fact, up to date. That is the amazing part. This is the best implementation of this feature that i have ever seen.
As for software that doesn't crash....you're correct.....that would be amazing.
- Tyrone0
BonSeff is only half right. Rubylith rules. Amber is a close second.
- BonSeff0
real men use amberlith
and non repro-blue pencils
- Peter0
My first post wasn't directed at you personally, and it's hardly something to get excited about. No need to say "school is in".
I believe microsoft word for example, has been using the very same features you mentioned. They've been creating temp files in the same manner for years. I can be wrong here, but whenever it crashes I can still open up my document exactly where I left it.
Indesign uses it too, that's great.
