javascript + flash question

can javascript functions be used in plain html to trigger an action in flash?
for example.. mousing over an html link triggering a sound in a flash movie on the same page?
i cant for the life of me get it to work

i have! ive been looking stuff up all morning trying to get this to work with no luck. unlike most people i went to google first even!
anything i have found does not work on macs at all, nevermind in safari specificly.......

i did this a couple years ago, but cannot find the online resource for it.

you can use it but it's somewhat limited

ill take whatever i can get, i have a client who just isnt taking "no" or "make the whole thing in flash" for an answer......

using the following syntax for the HREF portion of your A tag will call a flash function of the same name in the timeline the text resides:
"javascript:asfunction:functionN...

it's not gonna work in all browsers. IE uses activeX to communicate with flash. Netscape used to use what they called "LiveConnect", but have droppped it in v.6+ of their browsers.
Ain't gonna work for IE and Mac users.
