What do you guys think? Should a designer be just a designer and work together with a programmer, or should also code!? And why do programmers never hire designers to work with them? I am talking about big projects ofcourse. Why do so many software houses donte hire designers and only have programmers ( and very shity and disgusting user interfaces in theirs products)
What are your opinion about this subject?
Well right now I work as front-end designer in a software house and their product increase 90% in usability...so I think you can guess what is my opinion...
I dont like programming....

it's not so bad if you're in the right place.. i work in the gaming industry(at the moment) and being able to work with (some patient) programmers is great.. they make what they need and i make it look decent. really, most of it could be flying over their head but my boss and owner both see great value in design as an essential part (they used to work for apple, nike, adidas, bungie, etc...) so it's not so bad. just depends on where you are and who you work with.

yeah jpea I also think that way, but the problem is that are so many designers out there without a job and so many companys needing their product to look good, but they just dont hire. Maybe the fault is on their clients that dont demand better quality!
Now that Microsoft is giving a little more importance in the design issue maybe other companys will fowlow this...

It's easy enough; in most enviroments, we need both. On the other hand, I had a friend waiting for me while I finished up on some design work yesterday, and he said it looks like such a boring job... he's an accountant, LOL. If there is really any discussion to be had, its finding a job more boring than accounting.
