trouble is it is a high-top camper and i can't find anyone who does high top racks, to carry the canoe on the side of the elevated roof, if you know what i mean
does anyone know anyone IN THE UK who does these or could make one up bespoke

my sister designed one many moons ago for her degree course - it got rave reviews
but she doesn't have the tools to build one, so quite a pointless post by me

wha?!? dude, it's so simple. take a rope, tie one end to the canoe and the other to the back of your camper. done.
you can drag it behind... HELLO, it's a canoe! just don't take corners too fast.

Have you considered drilling through the roof and using a Yakima of Thule style rack that way?

kona - er, thanks?
mimio - i have to say i am more than a little nervous about drilling holes in the roof of the camper - i was really hoping for a rack that would fix to the gutter as usual, but with long legs to get over the roof.
also the height of the high top is annoying enough at times, i was hoping for a rack that would allow the canoe to be carried at the side of the roof, the height not being affected, other than an inch or two for the bars

more miles to the gallon that way ;)
