I'm looking for some spots that are not to be missed in any of the following European cities/countries.
We're starting in Germany for the Octoberfest in Munich, then we're going to London, Nottingham, Bristol and maybe some other places before we head to Holland, Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal.
Yes, I've read through the previous archives and have got some good ideas, but wondering if anyone feels kind enough to share some local treasures to a friendly Canadian designer and his fiance. We'll be there from September 15th to October 15th. We'll most likely hit some of the standard tourist spots, but I'm looking for the good pubs, clubs, record shops or anything that shouldn't be missed from a local point of view.
Any ideas are much appreciated and would return the favour if anyone was coming to Canada.

So, your starting in Deutschland and heading to London so to speak. I've been through many times. Try to do the DE to London thing by cutting through part of BENELUX, like you suggested. Belgium , Netherlands and Luxembourg. I've had a ton of fun in those areas. OK, but if your cup of tea is Iberia, then head down to Spain (Barcelona or Madrid) or even outlying areas on the coast (all nice) IMO. Portugal, never been to. Sh*t I can't remember the names of pubs and clubs, just general. :)

Don't think that France is bad either, it's rather nice IMO. The southern costal towns such as Nice and Cannes are beautiful, have nice food and ultra nice women! :)

all the clubs in munich are in this strange 'complex' of converted warehouses in a place called Kunstpark Ost, if you're into graff its worth going there in the daytime because all the walls are pieced with burners, every corner you turn is another stretch of colour.

Thank Jaz, I'm more partial to spending more time in the north, but my fiance is craving the sun and surf, we heard Portugal was a lot cheaper than Spain, but we do want to try to spend time in both. I'm also going to set up some interviews in the UK and Netherlands, nothing like job interviews on yer honeymoon!! :P

whomever you meet and whatever you do, you'll have fun and it will be worth going. just have that attitude and you'll feel great. Portgual is much cheaper than Spain I think. At least Spain was expensive when I was there. Friends of mine tell me Portugal is great and cheap.

Munich is a nice expensive-fashionable city. But be careful with the Oktoberfest! You will find millions of stinky drunken people. singin and screaming like demons in hell. I would suggest Berlin instead Munich as start point (although is quite far away...)

I have a feeling I will be one of those stinky drunken people screaming like a demon from hell. We would like to go to Berlin as well, but was noticing that it was about 8 - 9 hrs away by train.

For Nottingham:

http://www.panthers.co.uk - you'll be there for the start of the season.

http://www.pitcherandpiano.com - is one of the nicest bars in Nottingham and it's in the Lace Market area of Nottingham, on the same road as gals of justice. The Lace Market is one of the cool places to be.
http://www.nottinghamshiretouris… see the old oak tree. Erm... As you walk through the city you'll see places. Like the 'castle' up on the cliff. hope that helps. bit arse about face, but its 5.05pm and i wanna go home! Enjoy.

so you plan on taking the EuroRail is it?
- mike_g0
Yeah, we may take a flight somewhere at somepoint, but for the most part we'll get that Flexipass that allows us to do what we like (more-or-less) without a super-fixed schedule. I've never travelled like this before so it's been difficult to figure out how much time we want to spend in each place.
We want to have the freedom to figure things out as we go. We'll book some of our hotels ahead of time (from Canada) then kinda go from there.

one thing is knowing how much you are able to spend on accommodations. are you staying at backpacking places or somewhat halfway decent hotels or all out? is it planned ahead of time by an agency?
- mike_g0
We went to a "Flight Centre" travel agency and they gave us a book with listings for all the major cities with pricing as well, which is amazing, so yeah, we can get a good idea of how much coin we'll need.
I was surprised how expensive Amsterdam was in comparison. In the book we have, there were very few accomodations that were under $200 CAD per night.
I think we're going to stay "moderately well", so anywhere from $125 - $200 CAD per night range. Then we will splurge for a couple of nights. I saw some AMAZING places to stay in Portugal and Spain.

Well, I'm convinced you will have a great time. Being Canadian, everyone loves you. When travelling in danger zones, I always told people that, they were like, yeah ok, your Canadian, we love you. hahahha ;) The food will be fun for you guys.
- mike_g0
Yeah I think it will be amazing. It'll be a great experience and a good test to see if we can quickly adjust to living over there, as that's the secondary motivation. We both want to be living/working overseas within the next few months, that's why I have to hook up with a couple studios in person to see if it would work out. I've never really toted a canadian flag, but I think I'll probably sew a moose to my backpack.
The food, haha, I'm picky but my fiance is very willing to try new food, so that will be interesting for sure!
