Has anyone dealt with AQUENT?
Is it a good deal or not? They were the first hit in Google's directory for Graphic Design>Employment, but I just wanted to get some feed back.

If you get into a groove with them and get a few gigs, they'll look after you, otherwise they'll forget about you quick. Just like any other recruiter, however they usually know all the creative firms in the area.

these agencies seem shady and unreliable.
just have your school hook you up with something. check your career center or whatever.

I work for them in Sydney...
they are ok. I've been registered with them for 6 working days and Ive done 4 days work already. All powerpoint mind you. I'm registering with a couple more agencies just to be sure of constant work.

They aren't one of the shady ones, so rest assured there.
Key things to watch out for are, if your looking for a permanent placement, they take a hefty fee. That can be a detterent to an employer.
They can make you feel small in order to get you to say yes to the contract for a lesser rate, tell you how good it will look on your cv etc even if thats utter bollocks.
They can make you feel under-qualified on the basis of their in-house tests, their Flash test for example is an utter joke, Flash 3 styles. If anyone is still doing things like that in Flash theres not much hope for them. Yet still if you don't ace it they make you feel inadequate.Just make sure you keep your dignity.

I've worked with them and have friends that still work for them.
If you can avoid them, do it.
They do know where the jobs are and big clients like working through firms like Aquent. But Aquent does next to nothing and gets a big chunk of money in return.
Instead, I'd spend my time networking through the AIGA or something local to your town and get gigs on my own.
