To move or not to move...

...that is the question. I've always wanted to live in Ny. Now, it's come up as a serious option. Current climate at my job now is getting more unstable. Management shifting, more projects being outsourced, my current role being transitioned into an engineering role (which is not too bad; i will be learning some new code and building skillsets). Still, I think it's time I start lookin'.
I guess my question is about survival and rate of success. Can it happen? What are the jobs and work environment like out there? I've got my cv all together and working on the new site now. Is the market over-saturated?
Lotsa questions. Any advice or comments are appreciated.
