so I have drawn this 'thing' in freehand, its quite complicated and I have punched everything out so that it is all one joined/composite path.. ie; there is no overlapping/white fills blah blah..
anyway, I'm trying to print on a non postscript printer and it just prints out bitmapped, yet if I open in illustrator it prints fine.. is this just another fine example of freehands sucky postscript? Do complex paths automatically contain postscript info?... is it memory? WTF?!?!

can you export it to PDF?
i don't know.. i never use freehand, but PDF's seem to work great for that type of thing.
- rasko40
yeah I can, its just a bit of a pain when I'm just trying to run off things quickly as I work on it.

postscript and freehand are big enemies. i tell ya.
you should get into illustrator

yip learn the illy
- rasko40
oh I'll just do that this morning then..
I know how to use illy to a certain extent.. I just find freehand easier and quicker to use.. I am teh quickest with it.

once you get used to illy (2 days-one week) you will be much faster than with freehand...

I must admit that illustrator is very good, but it does some really stupid things. Like no snap to Guide. WTF is all about.
- Luckypp0
ILL has snap to guide, it has everything that freehund has except the fisheye tool which is worthless anyway.
Dump freehund, it sux
- rasko40
would you use illustrator to artwork say a 32 page brochure?
- Luckypp0
Nope, Quark.
Sure wouldn't use freehand either though.
- rasko40
well there are times that freehand is perfect for such a project.
- Luckypp0
Yeah I will give you that freehund is better at large spreads, but like all good programs, ILL is not meant as a layout tool, just as I would not use PS to layout text.
Use the right tool for the job, and as always, when you try to do everything right (freehund) you do nothing right.

I have FH and Ill, and agree with rasko. I tend to do vectorish things in FH and then export of Ill/inDesign if necessary for sharing with others. In FH you can have many pages of varying sizes! This is great for stationery systems and other things! Agreed, FH sucks in may ways, but this is a huge advantage! Rasko is the man!
that said, i have no idea why your shape is printing out bitmapped
- jg_20
making a freehand document with some pages in it is senseless. the software get crazy with it. much better working with illu and then importing the eps in a quark/in design doc. the printer will be grateful and you wont have any problems, for sure!

go argue with yourself you're not helping.
