It gets better.
I have had concerns from people who feel that they do not want to pay money to show their work in a magazine. I remind you it's a donation that's helping a good cause.
Soooooooooooo.... I have decided a new method that will make everyone happy and there is no reason not to contribute. Here are the guidelines.
A one page submssion to the magazine costs $30 US. With this you will be mailed 10 copies of the magazine. The magazine will be selling for $5.00 so if you sell 6 copies you will break even. Profit off the remaining copies and you make 20$! With the two page spread you could make 40$ or be nice guy and give them away.
This method will also help us to distribute the magazine worldwide. So far there are contributors from Canada, US, Mexico, Hong Kong and Romania.
So please this is a no loose situation for all parties. In the end we'll have an impressive magazine and will make a dent in a big problem. Spread the word.
No excuses,
thanks

honorable causes aside, we're paying you to be in the magazine and the chance to sell it for you?
It'll be far easier for me to mail the donation straight to the charity/cause and print my own artwork and give to whoever for free...

BJ's got a point there.
I suggest if you wanna run stuff like this, proper credit as well as transparent payment/donation systems have to be in place.
How many percent of the money (apart from printing) are you keeping?
Posting it openly on a reliable site would help.

listen, why post something like that. It's just negative. Do you send money to charities? I doubt it. Most of us get caught up in daily life and forget about things other then ourselves.
For one your not paying me. I'm not making a cent off this. I'm putting in my own time to try and make this work for everyone. Two your not selling it for me. You can do what you please with your copies .
The idea that we can raise money for a good cause, create and show our art (which should be something we love to do anyway) should be in, my eyes a postivie thing. The reason I decided to give designers more copies of the magazine was to distribute the mag, and get exposure to the subject.
If you don't like the idea don't get involved. I'm sorry if what I'm trying to do offending you somehow.
Put your money where your mouth is and send your money to a charity.

stop the slashing and judging on both sides. i think crkaintaiwan has a solid point. however i do understand the criticism albeit a bit premature but a lot of people already want stuff for free let alone charge money for it so i can understand the criticism. there are a lot of magazines, especially in the advertising field, where designers/agencies have to pay to contribute, and it's a lot more than $30 crkaintaiwan charges. you should see it as advertising yourself and advertising costs money. now you only have to wonder if it would work for you. if it doesn't than it's not worth it if it does than maybe the $30 spend could result in a job which generates prolly more than $30. but it all boils down to distribution. does it reach the target audience you want to reach. does the people who have the potential jobs actually get and read it? that's the main question.

Spongebob:
transparent payments you mean through a reputable site like Paypal or???I'm not sure what you mean.
I'm not taking a precentage of the money whatso ever. The price that I've given is the exact cost for printing.(for 1000 copies) All shipping costs, etc are coming out of my pocket.
I've lived in Taiwan for almost 2 years, rescued a few street dogs and it's onee of those things that I wanna do something about.
All I can do is try and show my true intentions and hope that people will get involved.
Newstoday (NTB) is as credible as it comes. The man himself is contributing

sorry mr taiwan...
didn't mean to piss anyone here. just giving some suggestions.
i think you ought to mellow a bit on the reactionary though, cos' it's for a great cause after all.
the transparency issue is so that less-well-meaning people don't get to scam off genuine donations. i really don't mean to offend, but you can just shut me up with the ignore list if you think i'm just crapping.
i do have a regular donation to SPCA and feed the occasional stray cat though. : )
i know people (who love animals and are) working in the local academy of fine arts, so i can probably pass out some of the mags.
does the $30 include the delivery?

by transparency i mean that the moment a donation is received, it is listed on your site along with name and amount and perhaps the charity organization itself posts an acknowledgement of the receipt of that said amount from SSDv2.
that's as transparent as it can get. unless you wanna scan and place your printing costs receipt as well haha
come to think of it, it is a heckload of work. : )
ouch.
hey chill a little, be happy. you're doing something great and have already earned my respect (for whatever little it's worth). : )

:) mr taiwan.....
Yup that's all inclusive. With shipping anywhere. Not airmail though. Will probably take 3-4 weeks delivery.
The deadline for submissions is July 31st. The mag should be shipping mid August.

thanks man, webdesign is not up there on my skills list. I hope to learn more about what you mentioned. I think that would be the way to go. I plan on doing more projects in the future so it's something for me to look into.
I'm working on getting some letters translated so I can give them to the charities here. The idea is they will reply with what they will do with the money. The people who contributed to the magazine will then vote on which organisation the money will go to . Here's a list http://www.anteism.com/store/pro…

aye i saw that part about the funding as well (read through the site before I started commenting).
surprised that there's only one with a proper url. animal abuse is that bad in Taiwan eh?
anyway, i can do ChineseXEnglish translation so if you don't already have someone on it you can let me know.
meanwhile if I break out some free time I might do an artwork or two and send it your way.
