yes another powerbook thread
packing up my dell desktop and going for a 15 inch powerbook.
is it the right thing to do,just graduated and now scraping every bit of my cash toghether
to replace my dell because its holding me back in my freelance work.should i buy the powerbook or not, because normally the money would pay rent for a few monthsyou know the uncertein period after you just graduated, well i'm in it right now.
i am an optimist and think i will get get a job right away,if not i will be only homeless person with a powerbook.

You've answered you own question there...a homeless person with a powerbook..they don't exist, and even if you were about to become homeless, you'd be flogging that power quicksmart to pay the rent.
Be smart..put off getting a new computer until you've got some income coming in.

problem its i have a big assignement coming ip,i have todo eigth animations for a big exhibition...with my dell i wont finish them on time, for school work itwas ok because threre were no real deadlines, but now the rendering etc..is taking up to much precious time.

Buy a laptop with a bigger cardboardbox, you know...just in case.

Fuck Money. Buy the Powerbook. And buy some nice T-Shirts too. http://www.dimension7.ch

i do not think i could ever use a 15inch powerbook as my primary design computer.
imagine using photoshop on that tiny screen.... ouch.
- tank0
keepin my 17inch screen...

screw the PB, save your money..
get an iBook G4, 15gig iPod and an external monitor. They'd be 'bout the same price.
- tymeframe0
the 15" is fine to move around on.

If it is time and money you are worried about. And you want a mac, get a first edition dual 2 gig tower.
it will be cheaper and ten times faster...

if you became the homeless with a powerbook, you would be king of homeless dudes
- tank0
hehe--well i maybe put a bit to dramatic...i dont want a desktop anymore..i work with a lot of people...another priority is tha i am cery mobile....hmmm the homeless idea is sounding better tough ;)

don't be a frickin' idiot.
nobody loves mac computers more than me, but i'd never go homeless for a computer.
save you're money for a while or even worse -- buy a cheap dell system -- until some real money comes rolling in.
then buy a powerbook, because you can't recharge your laptop from a cardboard box.

Powerbooks aren't good production machines. They will hold you back too.
- tank0
what is a good production machine?
- jon_0
You could go for a finance package rather than paying everything in one go.
Not what i'd like to do personally, but it might be an option

The new Inspiron XPS is good.
I would go with an Apple G5 Tower or a custom built PC for a desktop setup.

no more desktops, the reason why i want the powerbook is because a buch of friends of mine are so satisfied with it....ive worked sometimes on their powerbook, its just a goos solid machine, and i dont want to start a pc versus mac thread but my dell was just awfull...thats just my personal opinion,
- Mimio0
It's bot really a Mac vs PC issues. I have a 1ghz powerbook and it's just about useless to me at this point. Mainly because I do a lot of Flash and all the third party stuff is for PC. If it wasn't for that the PB would be pretty nice for web development.

eh,i did some heavy duty after effects on that powerbook of my mate,no crashes, smooth ram previews..working on that for a weekend really convinced me

if you can afford it. go for it. you can always sell ur powerbook if you're strapped for cash.
those things get pretty hot if you run them all day as ur primary computer.
just make sure you get the apple care.
