just installed a belkin high-speed wireless G router upstairs in teh computer room
connected to it fine on my ibook...but im in the same room and barely have 2 bars out of 4 - if I leave the room even a few feet I get no signal at all!
wtf?!
Is it my airport extreme card or just a shitty wireless router? I have half a mind to take it back tomorrow and try out the NETGEAR model that said it could send signals through walls and floors....
Why doesn't shit jsut work like its supposed to eh?

have you used it on any other wireless networks?
check to see if the card is connectred properly. make sure the wire is in it all the way and make sure the card hasn't come out of it's place.

come on then - throw me your suggestions!

cheers auricom - i'll try that. I had a dsl wireless router at my inlaws - same problem - I jsut reckon the router was shite - but now that its doing it with this one too I am starting to suspect its the airport extreme card

no prob. had that problem with mine when i first got it, card wasn't in all the way, guess it took a beating in shipping or something. all is well though.

I've got the same router.
It likes to occasionally stop producing a wireless signal for no apparent reason and then magically fix itself for no apparent reason after I've reset, refreshed and unplugged it about 500 times.
However, the last NetGear router I had was many, many times worse.
It had a gaping hole in the security and actually BROADCASTED it's IP to certain worms - so it was hammered non-stop.

damn! thanks for the info cinder!

try putting your router on something that is near electrical wires / components and away from your computer..
the signal is probbaly being jammed up by nearby electronics..

thanks - its been sorted
