Am now in the process of applying for jobs in London and companies are asking what salary expectations I have...
I am looking for a middleweight new media design role with a creative agency in central London, I have accured about 3 years experience and this is my portfolio of work http://www.cheong-see.com/ How much do you think I should be expecting?? and has anyone had any experience of the job market in london recently??
Thanks!

smellvetica: True.. I haven't graduated long ago.. do you think i should be a little less ambitious in my expectations.... I was hoping with my experience and level of work I could get a little better then a role as a 'tea boy'!!.
what salary boundary should I be requesting for someone at my level ...all things considered ....?

when i work as freelance in london both new media and print based, i get approx 100-120 gbp a day. this is around 24/26k. my exp is about 2 years just over actually in the profession.

the going rate for your experience and from quick glance your work would be approximately the same.. if you take that work to agencies (recruitment) then you may up that salary to 150 a day working as freelance. it depends on where you want to work to!

longman...... the depressing thing is that although my company has given me a lead role, in london they are also fucked me over with a shitty salary (actually not far off yours!!) Their justification.... 'you have only recently graduated' blah blah blah..
gpop... i 2 was doing freelance for a while and was loving it as was earning ££ but had to knock it on the head as had to make sure i could pay the rent every month..... (££ or security.. hmmmm)

cheers dc,
it was fun for about .. 2 hours..
then you just realise its just a big image x 18 choking up your machine.. plus i was working with teh photographer for a lot of it.. so he was fussy about cropping.. he was also her fella.. so he really wanted it 'nice'.. not all fun and games..what i should say is.. "yeah, it was great, did it for a favour and she hooked me up with an orgy with her mates!!"
hehe
roknroll...
dont start me on full time work.. i would if someone would just recruit me darn em!!!!

mate - realistically I wouldn't shoot for anything over 25K - and you'll be laughing if you get that!
About 20 - 22K.
- Dcsign0
jevad: woo.. 20 - 22K... really that low.. man!.. i have been relegated to tea boy status.. maybe my current job isn't that bad after all...
- jevad0
yep
- jevad0
oh and please take the fullscreen script off your site!!

I think 20—22k is way too low. I'm 1.5 years out of college & I make well over twice that. I guess I don't know much about the industry, though.
- brooke0
BTW--When I change jobs should I always expect a salary like this? I should probably start my own thread about this...
- arthur0
Brooke, there talking pounds, not dollars. £22k = about $41k. Are you making over $80k? Didn't know Geoffrey paid that well.
- ********0
Depends alot on the company size and their clients aswell.
But I'd agree with the number that have been given so far, £20-22. Wich is quite lowe yes, keeping in mind that London is such an expensive place to live.
- brooke0
Ah, pounds. Hehe, yes. No, I don't think Geoffrey would've been comfortable starting me off at $80k. But the other two illustrators make that much, maybe a little more.

still a decent salary for a new starter..
iit is a mess the pay rates for this career.. especially when all teh jobs that are decent pay shit but are in the expensive cities!
