I'm running Safari, but it sure don't work for everything.
IE is just a heaping pile of shit.
What are your recommendations for alternatives?

Firefox can do stuff Safari and IE cant... like some chat applications, and I think GMail is more reliable in it too..

I'm using mozilla- doesn't work for everything

Update your safari and make sure all your plugins (shockwave, flash) are correctly linked to safari. Then it should work fine. Safari code was stolen from Netscape Nagivator, which was the first mozilla.
