User Testing training from Jakob Nielsens Group cost $20,000 plus travel expenses. Anyone know where you can get formal training in usability or other resources at a low cost.

The best way to be a usability expert is to buy a plaque that has your name and the words "usability expert" on it.

jesus christ....read some books...most usability is just common sense!

Yeah, just read some books. I did a usability class in college. It was pretty good, but most of it was common sense, you just need someone to remind you thats all.
Bruce Tognazzini's Web site is a good source:

I have concluded myself that it is mostly common sense. I haven't had formal training but I can generally tell if something is usable or not. I'm kind of interested in certification. I would like to know more about formal user testing processes (which I'm sure you can find in a book).
If if is only common sense though why do they have degrees for human computer interaction, etc?

getting them to come in and train you/analyse your site is costly, but you can go to the user experience 2204 training in vegas on oct 3-8 or amsterdam november 1-6 for a few grand.
