Public stock offerings, pfft!!
It's gonna end up with the same mentality a union has with millions of worthless people owning stuff they don't know what it is.And with "auctions" through their site ALONG with tons of spread bankers? Eeek! You don't plant the seeds where you found them, g00gle.
Sure, whoever gets in early and sells fast might earn a buck or two, but in the long run, they're gonna fall like a heavy rock.
Two years from now, it's gonna be like an unwanted child. Believe me - Look up this thread again in July 2006 and you'll see.

its worth buying in my opinion..the thing is when will it go public...so u can get in early...i don't think it will die out in a month or year like jox said look at yahoo's stock....this is a bubble!

Google offers cautions to would-be investors ... Google warned overenthusiastic small investors might run up the IPO price to unreasonable levels, driving away larger investors like mutual funds or pension managers. That would make it more likely that Google's stock will fall once it starts trading, Google warned. ..

I've never done any of this stock business, how do you go about it? Do you have an online account and just click buy and sell kinda thing.. I mean, is it that easy to throw cash away?

From what ive read its really really unlikely that it will be a "quick money-maker": The IPO-auctions are usually used by big names (and again I am not a professional investor so take everything i say with a grain of salt). So its safe to assume that with a hot name like "google" the IPO price will go quite high and then drop ... it will take some time to even out I guess, so an initial loss is likely.
Like everything its a gamble: will the "leveled off" stock price rise above what you paid for it within the period you are willing to hold it for (or at all)?
That said, if I can find the liquid cash I'm going to buy some google, even if I lose its a good way to support socially/ethically responsible business (which google epitomizes).

Whoops, I meant to say:
The IPO-auctions are NOT usually used by big names.
