Just curious how many folks out there are no longer supporting netscape 4.x. in their sites. Statistically it's almost gone, but still is in use.
Anyone still have people reporting bugs to them from it? What do you tell them?
I'm developing interfaces for various web applications that call for some advanced features and can't avoid the breakage. For the most part is hasn't been a problem, I just need some facts and stuff to back up the decision for when a customer complains.

it was time to drop Netscape 4 about two years ago.

and time to make sure you are supporting Safari properly (a lot of people aren't... such as GMail, assorted chat applications...)

i have limited support for 4.0 in the new site that i am developing. basically, i have used @import for the styles, and NN4 doesnt recognize it. so all of the content is semantic and readable, but not easy to use.
and at the top of the screen is a link that says "this site uses advanced features which require a modern browser. please download Mozilla now."

i or even my company hasnt coded for 4.7 for a long time.
backwards coding only hinders things in the long run.
I stopped coding for it like 3 years ago

omg seriously - I stopped coding for NN4.x like 2 year ago....always explain to clients why and they are generally in agreement...

thanks for the responses.
I dopped it for the most part about a year ago. Problem with these web apps I'm working on, is it's a bunch of electrical engineers... the, "I'm going to turn off images in my browser" types, and some STILL refuse to upgrade. Some of the customers still want access for those users =/

why not just include an .exe for a modern browser?

I explain to people that I no longer design for those browsers because they don't support css. then I turn my talk into the benefits of css, works every time.
