why is it that clients NEVER pay on time and you have to practically pull their teeth out to get your money? my bf has this problem ALL the time and it makes me SO mad!!!

omg i feel your pain.....some days i feel like i do nothing but pester , when really it isn't fucking pestering cause they are late on payment, and i should , by all rights, be charging late fees
i think the term freelancer should be changed to "earning-a-good-living-lancer"

how is your contract written concerning pay and pay periods? i typically work on a Net 30 basis, if they havent paid in 30 days, there's a penalty.

yup. same here. 15 days though i say to make a payment. then it's 10% of the total amt due for each week late.
most companies pay 2wice a month so 15 days is reasonable. and before i got a full time gig i needed money quick, so waiting 30-45 days was not happinin

they dont get the project until i get a cheque. i dont give terms i dont haggle it saves face all round. for web work the site stays on a testing domain. for print i get paid on provision of a CD.

also, if it's a new client, word your contract to pay a % up front, and name the exact date when the rest is expect (usually upon delivery)
everything is negotiable
