alright i've had a bit of experience with scanning...but what is the best way to scan a magazine and get the best results, a clean, clear image to work with?

not sure but the better quality your scanner is the better off you are. I've been having a lot of fun scanning sh*t and then saving it out as a dirty-*ss bitmap.

hmm thanks jaz yeah...any tips on when it's in photoshop? like to get rid of any scan lines that may occur or a color variation? ya know...little details that are a must to all scanned images?

Tip: Never, ever use your scanner's sharpening feature. Just do the sharpening in Photoshop.
For basic color correction, this might come in handy:

If you can access a pro level drum scanner, use it. Best res available. Tweak in photoshop, not the silly program that comes with (scanner name here).

Try scanning at a ridiculously high resolution like 800 - 1000 dpi then reduce the resolution in Photoshop. I find this smooths and descreens images scanned from magazines.

you really only need 300 dpi, maybe at 200%. Beyond that you're just going to get a crisper dot pattern

I also like to duplicate the layer and apply a slight blur, combin elayers, duplicate, blur, repeat until it looks good.

I usually scan at a really high dpi. add a small amount of blur and then resize in photoshop to decrease the moire pattern.
