textpad is pretty good, but I've used basic notepad handcoding sh*t since 1989 on a Mac and PC. Also, like HomeSite, Dreamweaver and FrontPage XP.

These threads always make me laugh. I love how all the cool kids have to say "I'm so cool, I waste tons of time by coding stuff by hand using notepad!"
Welcome to the dark ages. Really, come on, code completion and color coding are a godsend. If you haven't used an advanced editor lately, you've been wasting tons of time.
If you're on a mac, BBEdit is old faithful, and it even has built in Dreamweaver integration if you need it. Dreamweaver has actually become a pretty nice editor as well, especially if you're doing a lot of HTML or CSS. It's a bit more of a resource hog and tends to be temperamental though.
On the PC side, check out Crimson Editor:
It's free and has a ton of really great features that actually help speed up your coding.
Hope that helps!
