Hey, i've never used much besides pshop and illustrator, so sorry if this is a stupid question, but
1. Is Adobe Pagemaker like Quark? which is better?
2. What is Adobe InDesign for? just making PDFs?
3. What are good tutorial sites for both these products, as I want to learn them.peaceNadvance

InDesign is adobe's version of quark,, they do the same thing basically. page layout and typesetting for publication.
adobe acrobat is the one that just makes pdfs

pagemaker = Quark
InDesign= competitor to quark, simiarities and integration with adobe CS.
NON.

I was meant to say pagemaker = shit!!

If you actually get the software, the help menus and the online help are really extensive. That is all you need. Although if it is completely foreign and you've never done any design I would take a beginer class to familiarize w/ the tools

Pagemaker = Quark
tell that to the Adobe people, haha!

Pagemaker was the original page layout program for publishers in the late 80's, early 90's. Quark showed up and kicked Pagemakers ass. InDesign is Adobe's attempt to get back into that market.

Pagemaker = dead
They've phased it out and InDesign is taking over. So now it's...
Adobe InDesign vs Quark XPress

muchos thanks for the responses guys! indesign it is.

oh and is there a point of knowing quark if you know indesign? and vice versa? or is that a pc vs mac, corel vs illustrator questions ;-)
- grayhood0
its just like corel vs illustrator. InDesign is still pretty new and i have come accorss a few printers who didn't have the program. but that is pretty rare. if you are already familiar with photoshop and illustrator InDesign will be much easier to learn. it has similar comands and short cut keys.

http://www.adobe.com has all your answers.

btw, noone uses corel. ts a freehand vs. illustrator issue sometimes... but Illy is th eindustry standard.
Unfortunately there is no standard w/ page kayout so it is good to know both.

yeah, i found many tutorials. my main concern was the differentiation between pagemaker and indesign since i have to work with the applications we have here and i just wanted to know which one i should invest my time in learning. i just realized how ancient pagemaker is! i never did any layout stuff before.
but good looking on the insights, peace

PageMaker is not going to be or isn't now supported. InDesign takes over, sigh.

bizzare... this thread is up to 19 and noone has insulted another person or mentioned penises or gmail (exempting me ofcourse).
Good thread! Oh by the way Indesign 1 isn't the best so probably Indesign 2 is the way to go if you're getting it.
