musically speaking, when has the remix/cover of a song sounded better than the original?

Usually when Norman cook a.k.a fatboy slim is involved, but to in relation to recent months for me Skylark and his remix of Tears for fears shout ! amazing !
we dont need to mention DJ Danger mouse and his reworking of Jay Z Black album, that really was so much better than the orignal, but its been talked about here b4 of course.

From the top of my head;
the original "All is full of love" (Björk) is pretty awful, amazing remix though. "I got cha opin" by Blackmoon and "Headbanger" by EPMD are two remixes that are better then the original.

i think its hard to beat an original. But i love it when they take a classic and remake it with more modern techneques but keeping the origianl format.
I also thing Mr. Cook isnt really a remixer, more of a sampler. A remix is a remake of the original elements, he just takes clips/snippets of the orignal and layers them into his own production.Heres an example of a 'remix' in my opinion.

U2's & Johnny Cash doing "The Wanderer" turned out to be one of Cash's best.

the gray album gets crushed by the black album in my opinion

Halleluja by Jeff Buckley, way better than leonard cohen' version.
Goldie remix of Bush's "Swollow"
7 seconds version of 99 red balloons.
Jimi hendrix version of the national anthem.

I'm amazed no one mentioned Pete Rock. There was a time when anything he touched turned to gold. The 'I Gotta Love' and 'Get on the Mic' remixes are way better than originals. And his remixes of PE's 'Nighttrain' and 'Shut Em Down' are classics. Also, I have to disagree with Haga. 'I Got Cha Opin' by Black Moon was better as the original. But every man is entitled to an opinion.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!
JAY-Z 's black album was way better then the remix album. The grey album had a few good tunes but i took it as a new sound, not a better sound
As for remixes, alot of artists try and get there shit remixed to target diff audiences. As for remakes, nothin can touch the orig.

i think manyf covers are better than the original, especially if the covering band makes it their own.
take this elton john cover for example:

As to what unsexy pixel said, i was referring to norman cooks commissioned "Remixes" rather than his own sample based works.
im have'n a scratch of my head here as to a few remixes from various artists which are fantastic...
