I agree that we didn't play well. Don'd take it out on Beckham and Vassel. We were playing against 12 men and one of them was Swiss.
That goal should not have been disallowed.

Some of you guys seem to have watched a different game. England were SHIT, with a capital SHIT. you can't defend for 87 minutes and expect to win, utterly worthless performance by Beckham AGAIN - he should be ashamed of himself. Yeah the ref seemed to be biased, and yes the penalty spot was atrocious, but the portuguese (minus Rui Costa) had no problem with it. Pathetic performance, it is embarrasing to see that yet again English sportsman have no backbone and belief. Campbell and Cole had the game of their lives, but they had no choice but to defend with all they had. Did we have a midfield? never saw two passes put together. Hats off to Portugal, you deserved to win in 90 minutes, and it should never have gone to penalties.
Quote of the night - reporter asks Gary Neville, what can you take from the tournament?
GN - Nothing, we went out in the quarter final, what can you take from thatGlad to see Eriksson apologise to the fans for such an awful performance
Rant over - as you were

Right, I am no fan of football or anything. If, IF, I was I know I wouldn't idolise a player (ie. Beckham) until he messes up.
That could have happened to anyone, it has done before, and it will do again.
It seems that someone is only worth liking it they're winning the games for us. I just seems really hypocritical to me.
Call yourself a fan? Support them through the good and the bad. As bad as it is now, the good will come back around again.
As for the expectations of England actually winning, we should know better than that. Never expect to win, just enjoy the games as they happen, support your team.
Anyway, I'll go now as I am obviously out of my depth and no nothing of such complex matters.

England Supporters shown a lot of fair play and respect over here in Portugal specially after the game, they even joined our celebrations.
I really appreciate that. Even though England Lost, we were lucky at the penalties.. and overall we deserved to finish the game after that superb goal of Rui Costa.Congrats England People.. ~that was a hell of a game...
bad luck to Beckham :|

I'm not going to start applauding awful play
wheres the sense in that - end of the day Portugal deserved it and wanted it more than us. they wont win the tournament though, they don't have the fire power

the referee was right. go and watch the close ups.

How about getting Rooney velcro fastening boots? Laces seem too complicated for the poor wee hoodlum.
- MX_OnD0

Back page of The Sun made me laugh, picture of Mr Meier and the Headline, Swiss Banker...ha ha
awful reporting in the sun - all full of bad luck this, unlucky that, and I only found one sentence that went half way to admit that we didn't play very well
You gotta love the optimism in this country

did anyone bet on the game???

we were very dissapointing, refree couldn't handle the pressure, I mean these guys are suppossed to be the best in the world, it should have been Anders Frisk or Pierluigi Collina.
David "plank hands" James is crap, he should have getting the defence to push out, we were defending far too deep and as a result Postiga's goal was a gift. Plus did the sh*t b*astard get anywhere near one of those penalties did he heck.

I can't spell today, must be 'cause I'm mildly hung over.

the 'bad referee' thing is reserved by the italian soccer team

beckham is a commercial slut. maybe if he'd pay more attention to his game then to his haircut he would understand how to actually score a penalty !! ... or any goal.
maybe he should read the book instead of holding it with his pretty pepsi-face ! ;-)

did anyone see the linesman after Campbell's 'goal'? He was running back to the halfway line quite obviously indicating he thought it was a good goal. I know I was incredibly drunk, but I believe...I think, you know I'm not sure, but the ref was quite along way away, and the linesman had a better view of it.
There was a close up picture of the moment when Rooney broke a bone in his foot, and the portuguese defender was standing on the back of Rooney's heel

I think the lack of violence from english supporters after the match last night surprised the world.
Everyone that watched that match mustve turned round to whoever they were watching with and said something along the lines of "wow - its gonna kick-off bigstyle in portugal tonight!"
