BlackIce, and also my DSL router has a firewall built in.
redundant, yes, but safe.

Using a firewall in the router should be enough?
- strabley0

- warheros0
uhh it's cable

I use my Routers Firewall
- warheros0
is that really enough? i want to make sure for teh friend.
she doesnt really know how to take care of teh computer.

in that case just set up her firewall so she doesnt have to worry about it cause the less questions for you, the better your off.

zonealarm should be fine for her, if you're really worried about security get a hardware firewall, i've seen some really good ones go for $100 somewhere, i have to look again though. i think Lynksys has a nice end-user hardware firewall out too.

i have a cisco pix 501...runs a little over 600 bucks with the service/support from the vender.
but, well worth the money. i wouldn't trust a shitty software firewall with any of my data. not only are they hard on the system (espeically older or slower boxes) but they're really not secure.
of course, your firewall is only as secure as the admin setting it up.
depending on what you do for a living...buying a decent hardware firewall is a good investment.

As for my router firewall and BlackIce, every now and then BlackIce detects something attempting to get in. So I keep it running because I think it auto updates for new rap out there.
