What does it mean when a hosting company doesnt offer Static IP Address as part of their hosting package??
Does it mean the hosted website wont be accessible by the domain name? eg: www.anydomain.com?
Any ideas?

it means the host is on dialup! it's a 13year old kid with localhost! ;)
okay... so I don't know.

Usually..and not limited to just dial up..when you connect to your ISP, you are assigned an IP out of their pool. this changed each time you connect to the internet.
Hence you IP is not staitc..and it's not really advisable to try to run webservers that really need a static IP to run proprely.

It just means they are using 'name-based hosting'...it's cheaper, as many domains share one IP. If you don't have a need for your own IP, it shouldnt matter.

i assume from your answer that my website WILL be accessible thru the domain name (www.anydomain.com) ...
thanks man!

Sure...How else would you expect to get to it? or did you think it would be a subdomain "/~yoursite" address?

right..
so the websites hosted without a static ip address would be slow to access? or would they be frequently inaccesible all together?
what i want to know now is what is the difference between hosting with or without a static ip address?
actually i m planning to host with mediumcube.com and their most basic plan does not offer static ip addresses!

You shouldnt notice any difference in speed or access. It's a popular/cheap type of hosting plan.
We have static IP on our online magazine hosting, but we are on a dedicated server so you always get one, and the IP is just useful for debugging, resolving DNS problems etc...

it really doesn't make a difference. your domain record points to your hosts nameservers (which is a static ip). from there on it redirects, based on the domain name, to the appropiate place on the server. we're talking about nanoseconds difference here. so it's far removed from being noticable.

+ what ribit says. and the pool of ip numbers are limited (they are working on a different system though) which basically means it's more expensive. then again it doesn't make sense to have a static ip unless you don't want to work with domain names.

thanks for the input guys!
i'll go with mediumcube i guess...
- ribit0
btw... you know you can get about 5 times more bandwidth and diskspace than they offer for the same price, if you shop around ... and a fixed IP :)
- aiyaz0
ribit: i did shop around a bit but couldnt find any host that offer the same stuff that they r offering in the same price...
my main concerns r:
1. monthly billing
2. at least 10 mailboxes
3. at least 50MB disk space
4. good set of clients/sitesmost of the hosts offer much more but if i opt for monthly billing, the price shoots up to more than $12 / month!!
besides.... mediumcube have a deal going that gives 50% off to designers and developers which makes it around $5 per month...
if u can suggest someone better, then pls go ahead :)

sounds OK for what you want then...
