Hello!
I have to come up with a concept for a paper I have to write for my school. I'm very interested in Motion Graphics and I'd really like to have that as main subject for my paper. I have to formulate a case and questions and subquestions and stuff. But I'm not sure what to write about concerning motion graphics. It has to be a very serious subject with a scientific feel ;-) I need to do some serious research and to come op with a list of sources I'm going to use,Does anyone have any good tips for a subject or main question? Thanks in advance!

"has to be a very serious subject with a scientific feel"
well, thats gonna be tricky as you've chosen to cover a subject which is primarily superficial eye candy.

yes I know. I might want to make it a little broader. Should I look more into animation or into the emotional value of motion graphics... if there's any...
any tips? It's just that I'd like to write about something I'm interested in.

I would talk about the Gestalt principles and it's psychological impact on the viewer. This is pretty standard throughout all graphic design, but it's loaded with "scientific" value.
If I were you I would approach the paper as if you were talking about graphic design--how the design is rooted in cultural contexts, etc.
If you wanted to talk about the actual creation of motion graphics, perhaps you can go into the math of compositing--levels, layer modes, f-curves.

I would also talk about it's emergence through the development of film, animation, early compositing examples (ie, Man with a Movie Camera perhaps)
But as said above, motion-graphics is essentially bullshit superficial eye candy used to sell crap you don't need ;-)

Sounds interesting! Thanks for the tips!
Anyone else?

why dont you become amotion graphic your self, and explain how you live and how you work, since everything you see is a motion.
try and come at it in a different perspective.
Good luck on your paper

maybe something about the differences between motion graphcis today versus how things were done 10-20 years ago? in film and on tv. (ie. Saul bass movie intros, versus Kyle Cooper). Compare and Contrast their techniques?
