Depends on the browser. Still best to attempt some sort of detection so that you can determine what happens if the user doesn't have the plugin installed.

well, I have a method that works very fine, just too lazy to use it..
I use a small swf which redirects to the main site or meta redirect after 5 secs if no flash installed..
ya know.. just too lazy..

Actually I use that sometimes too. Not a bad way of doing it. Very possible that the user has flash installed, but it's jacked and won't work.
Besides, then you have control of minor versions as well.
