I'm looking at illustrating some faux airbrush graphics and I think gradient maps hold the key. I've used them a little in the past but without great success. If anyone has any tips, tricks or knows of tutorials for this, I'd appreciate it.
Of course I could just airbrush it for real ;)

Divide your rendering into sections when using the gradient mesh. The key is blending them together for the most natural look. An example would be
or view for a closer look at another mesh piece. Also there's http://www.illustratorworld.com for tons of samples of realistic renderings.
Good luck, Duxxy!

thanks brooke -
excellent illustrations by the way. I tried my hand at something the other night, and until looking at those links I felt quite good about the results ;)
What version of illustrator are you running? I'm running 9 and I'm finding using the gradient mesh tools rather finicky - I have a sneaky suspicion they're easier to use in higher versions?
I might drop you a mail if you dont mind
