has itunes stepped up security in line with record label legalities??
when i try to import certain cds it claims 'insufficient access priveleges'.
....but even on cds i've successully imported in the past!!??whats up with that?

That's kind of scary. I wonder if it's iTunes of some other deeper problem in the OS.

don't say that

are the cds you have from a particular record company? is there any similarities in the cds youre having problems with?

I only wonder because I just ripped a new CD with the updated version of iTunes with no issues, save for it crashing...
Not to jinx you or anything, but I hope it's not the music police throwing their weight around.

jawbreaker 'dear you'
pedro the lion
nick drake 'pink moon'
none of the above will import, although i've had jawbreaker on previously. however... weakerthans and the strokes will import quite happily...?!?!?

Looking around I'm almost certain this is an issue localized on your system. I haven't been able to find anything about iTunes restricting CD importing, but I have found stories of iTunes failing due to some funny privilige settings.
It's not the same as your problem, but check uut this link, specfically the bit about iTunes near the buttom (command+F "Figure 6.14" will take you there).

Maybe follow up here.

thanks for the help anyway!

Try repairing your permissions with Disk Utitlity, might be something as simple as iTunes not being able to write to the Music folder. But if some CDs are ok it's probably not that.

ironically, if that was a new feature, it would lead to increased music piracy
