I finally got paid some money i had coming and I don't want to spend it on booze and women.
I'd like a digital camera, but I ain't got no idea where to start.
Can anyone recommend anything?
I'd be willing to spend up to $300-400. Nothing supremely fancy.
thanxs for any wisdom.

Just want to second that dpreview suggestion.
Find something you're interested in, then go there and research the daylights out of it.

think about the lens quality not just the pixels.

third (or fourth) that www.dpreview.com thingy.
my personal recommendation is an Casio Exilim-Z40.
Compact enough to take everywhere (you'd sometimes think twice with bigger cameras), fairly good optics, and a Li-Ion battery life that lasted me my 5-day holiday (500 shots).
Wikkid stuff.

One of my options was a Pentax Optio S4 but some fellas told me that the Casio Z40 had the same optics and was overall a better camera. Most probably I'll be buying this one.
