If you are anywhere near the east side and not a vegetarian, Monte's Steakhouse in Pasadena is awesome. Or maybe do sushi in Little Tokyo and head up to the spinning bar on top of the Westin Bonaventure for drinks.

The Kobe house in J-Town is good (off the 101 and 1st I believe), or if you want fun itallian there is bucca de peppos in pasadena or huntington (i think thats how you spell it)

PF Changs? It's good, but nothing special. Try Nobu for good sushi (Malibu). FYI The Ivy has great steak (Robertson). Maybe try Mr. Chow's in Beverly Hills, the fancier PF Changs.

Since we're on the asian tip, here's my fave: Yamashiro

There's a Bucca de Beppo's in Santa Monica as well as Pasadena and Huntington. It's on 2nd street between (I think) Broadway and Santa Monica, right next to the promenade.
Second the earlier motion for Cobras and Matadors. It's great.

Yamashiro is a nice place for dinner. For me, I think the food is so so but pricy. However, the interior and view are SUPERB !
A place for your date :)

nothin beats Joe's Crab Shack for a b-day soirée...
or Lucille's... best beef ribs in the world.

The Bollywood Cafe in Studio City is excellent! And, yes, that pub across the road isn't bad too (it's an English type.. so cider on TAP!).
I'd also recommend Miceli's in either Studio City or Hollywood.. excellent prices, wonderful atmosphere, and they'll sing to you if it's your birthday (or for any other reason, to be honest). Real fun place to go, and you'll always leave feeling full.
