measuring in indesign

  hi, i'm new to using indesign so i'll apologize in advance if this turns out to be a dumb question...

  how can i measure the distance between things in indesign? i'm looking for something like the measure tool in photoshop. currently, when i need to measure something in indesign, i draw a box and read the values for width and height in the transform window. there has GOT to be a better method...

  help, please.
