I am trying to capture video from my camera (SONY DCR-IP7E PAL) with Final Cut Pro. But the preview screen says disabled and shows only the color bars like on a test screen.
I can use the play, stop, ... buttons in FCP so there's interaction between FCP and my camera. When I press the 'Capture Now' button I get a black screen with 'Waiting for Timecode'
Anybody?

You need to press play and start the camcorder before you hit capture now.

Does it say VTR OK in the bottom of the window, beneath the play/pause/rewind controls? If no, then the camera isn't being recognized by FCP. You may try restarting FCP and/or restarting the computer (make sure camera is disconnected while restarting, then reconnect). It sounds like you may have tried this already. If you have another camera or firewire, try that. I've found that sometimes works, but I'm in a classroom situation with access to many cameras/firewires.

does the camera play anything by itself?
I had a similar problem where FCP wasn't getting anything from the camera but i could still play and ff through FCP.
However when i played the video nothing was showing on my camera's lcd.Solution: the heads were dirty on the camera, works fine now.

All I get when I press capture now is the black FCP screen with at the bottom: 'waiting for timecode' .......

FYI
I switch on the camera, set it it VCR mode. Then I launch FCP and on the screen (LCD) of my camera I get the message: 'INPUT ERROR'. But this message disappears and I can control the camera as normal ....
