I want to build a PC

I have decided to go back to PC for my new machine. I'm disappointed in Apple's latest upgrades. I feel that for half the price I can get everybit of power that the G5 offers. I haven't build a computer in a few years, and I haven't been around PC's in that time.
Does anyone have any advice on some good components? I used to use Asus Motherboards, Pentiums, and crucial memory. Any tips would help me out.
Thanks

I was considering doing the same thing. Search for the "Build my PC" there's two good systems in there.
Honestly, the new Powermacs are a better deal and are more powerful. Plus you get the Mac OS.

If you havent researched then how do you know it's cheaper?
AND, no pc processor will outperform the 64bit G5. Get a refurbished one, same warranty as the others and you can save a coupl ehundred.

i would go with the high end P4, all others just cant perform as well, and the nice P4's have big caches [ideal for graphic work]
i would recommend either 512MB or 1GB or RAM, and always make sure you have more dimms so you can upgrade.
try go get more than 4 PCI slots, as i have six and wish i had more. the more USB connections the better.
oh, youll want a firewire card, i picked one up for $50 at best buy.
flatscreen! optical mouse! snazzy keyboard.
get a good motherboard with a nice phat bus. cant think of anything else really...your choices are going to come down to what brand you want to use really, as most of the brands are pretty much the same.
the newest kind of RAM, the SDRAM is the best...or whatever it's called.
good video card is a MUST.

Thanks all for your help. I haven't fully committed to the PC world again, but I'm defenitly leaning that way.
