How do I make my own fonts? I really want to start but dont know where to ... erm... start. Is it a hard process? What even is the process?
Thanks

Alot of people use standard typefaces as a matrix (template) Which makes the proportioning a little easier. I recommend skething a lot by hand in ink to get the stroke weight down. Then just scan your drawings and use them in the background of your font app.

do you have to draw all of them?

No you find shortcuts to graft and amputate parts from character to character. Plus alot of characters are very similar...like the lowercase d and p are nearly identical.

i sketch down ideas then either scan them in or draw them from scratch in illustrator. choose a few letters to start with and the others will come flow from that i find.

A good place to start here:

Check out the forums too, plenty of chances to put your typeface designs for a crit. You can download Stephen Moyes' "Fontographer: Type by Design" here:

It's a useful book for type design in general, not just Fontographer.
