Hey everyone.. quick question..
Is it possible to author a DVD that would allow the user.. to choose which chapters they want to watch?
like.. say they have a list of 30 chapters.. could they pick ch. 1, 4, 17, 2, 8, and 29 and make a selection just once and then watch those over and over.. in that order.. if they wanted to?
i know i'm asking for a lot.. but basically.. it's just "does DVD authoring environment allow for user selection of a group of chapters to watch" ?

The last time I did a DVD in StudioPro, I don't believe that was possible, and doubt that it is period, but I don't know about the other DVD authoring programs.

that would be dope tho. Especially for skate dvds.

yeah.. basically a choose your own adventure type of thing
the case in my situation.. is a DVD full of about 30 ads and informative spots.. and we want the store owners to be able to choose which ads and spots they want to show for that day..
i guess i'd have to do some sort of chapter groups.. like.. maybe just have some pre-sets instead of allowing the end user the interactivity and choice..

It seems logical that a script could be written for it to be possible. Agreed, it would be awesome to watch all my favorite parts of Yeah,Right! without having to access the chapter menu multiple times.

maybe my search terms are not cutting it..
anyone have some alternative ways to search for this on forum sites and google? i've tried "selectable chapters" "chapter groups" user interaction chapter list" etc..
anyone think they've got a better description?

i think its possible since, you are selecting a preference
i remember seeing a dvd once like that..
cant remember which

yeah.. i know the interactivity is there.. i remember the Memento DVD.. and how hard it was to go through all of those psychiatric tests to try and find the chronologically correct movie..
i'll keep digging i guess... thanks though

you can define variables when authoring and you can have conditioning.
look for 'variables' and 'conditionals' in your software's online help or manual.

You CAN do it... coz you can do it in the Underworld EVERYTHING EVERYTHING dvd... you could build your own gig... look for the DVD authoring house 'The Pavement'...
You need a high end authoering system like Sonic or scenaris to let you set the variables etc.... Some of the desktop ones might be able to do it now though... if you find out let me know... want to test out Encore soon.
